"It’s hard to define what the phenomenon is abstractly, but it’s fairly easy to recognize once you’ve seen a few examples. It concerns sentences such as ‘The number two is blue’, ‘The theory of relativity is eating breakfast’, or ‘Green ideas sleep furiously’. These sentences, which are very odd (and odd in a distinctive sort of way), are what I call ‘category mistakes’."
